Description BMW X5

BMW X5 (G05) - the fourth generation of the X5 crossover. The first information about the new product was published at the beginning of June 2018, and the world premiere of the car will take place in November.

In the fourth generation, the BMW X5 received new proportions that made it more “impressive” in appearance and spacious in the cabin. The wheelbase of the car has grown to 2975 mm, which is 42 mm more than its predecessor. The crossover is also 36mm longer (4922mm), 66mm wider (now 2004mm) and 19mm taller (up to 1745mm). The main visual element of the front of the “X-Fifth” was massive radiator grilles with a single frame and LED headlights as standard, which can be replaced with adaptive LED headlights with BMW Laserlight high beam control for an extra charge.

A distinct shoulder line that extends across the entire body along the door handles to the 3D LED taillights adds to the relief. In addition, xLine and M Sport versions are available for the X5 with original interior and exterior details. 22-inch light alloy wheels are available as an option and for the first time in a production BMW.

The interior of the BMW X5 uses high-quality materials, including the new Vernasca leather upholstery as standard. Also offered for the model is a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof, multifunctional seats, cooled and heated cup holders, ambient lighting, a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound premium audio system and a rear-seat entertainment system with 10.2-inch touch screens.

The driver interacts with the on-board electronics of the BMW X5 through the BMW Live Cockpit Professional system. The standard version of the BMW Live Cockpit Professional includes an instrument panel and control display (12.3 inches each). The system allows you to control various functions using the steering wheel buttons, iDrive controller, touch screen, voice control or gesture control. An advanced projection display with a larger diagonal (7 × 3.5 inches) is optionally available.

The trunk volume of the BMW X5 G05 is 645 liters. If necessary, it can be increased to 1860 liters with the help of a 40:20:40 folding rear seat backrest. And as an option, third-row seats for two passengers are available. At the same time, the tailgate consists of two sections, and with the optional Comfort Access system, both sections open and close automatically. The luggage cover can be lowered to the floor at the touch of a button.

Options include Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go, Driving Assistant, Lane Change Warning, Lane Change and Lane Keeping Assist with Active Side Impact Protection. The parking assistant in the new X5 controls not only steering, but also parking speed and braking. Another innovation is the emergency stop assistant, which can slow the car to a complete stop if the driver feels unwell.

In addition, the crossover can be equipped with a reversing assistant. This function allows the vehicle to move backward along the previously traveled path. This complex provides automatic steering when moving backward at a distance of up to 80 meters.

From launch, the new BMW X5 will be available with either a V8 powertrain or one of three straight-six engines. The new V8 engine that will power the BMW X5 xDrive50i produces 462 hp. and has a maximum torque of 650 Nm. The BMW X5 xDrive40i version will receive a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine with 340 hp and a maximum torque of 450 Nm.

Under the hood of the new BMW X5 M50d will be placed an in-line six-cylinder diesel engine with a capacity of 400 hp. and a torque of 760 Nm. The BMW X5 xDrive30d is also equipped with an inline six-cylinder diesel engine delivering 249 hp. and 620 Nm. All power units are combined with an 8-speed "automatic".

The BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system gives priority to the rear axle in setting the vehicle's behavior during dynamic driving. An even more sporty character is given to the car by an electronic locking rear differential, available with M Sport versions or with the Off-Road package. By equalizing the speed of rotation of the inner and outer wheels in a turn, this system optimizes traction, resulting in improved tire grip on the road surface.

Serial production of the BMW X5 G05 will be organized at the American BMW Group plant in Spartanburg.
