The factory index of the first generation of the model is I01.

The standard version of the BMW i3 is an electric car, in which the rear wheels are powered by an electric motor that produces 170 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. This is enough to accelerate a four-seater hatchback to a hundred kilometers per hour in 7.3 seconds. At the same time, the declared range of travel on a single charge of lithium-ion batteries is from 130 to 160 kilometers. If you switch the car to the Eco Pro + economy mode, then, according to the passport data, the electric car will be able to drive 200 kilometers without recharging.

The company believes that such reserves should be enough in normal operation, citing as an argument the average distance traveled by drivers around the world - 64 km per day. However, for people who often make long-distance voyages, a version is offered in which the BMW i3 can be charged not only using sockets, but also thanks to an additional 38-horsepower internal combustion engine, with which the nominal range is increased to 300 km or 340 km in economy mode. This version is designated i3 REX (Range Extender - power reserve extension).

True, in this case, you will have to sacrifice a little dynamic characteristics, because due to the increased weight, acceleration to “hundreds” will take not 7.3 seconds, but 8.1. Traction is transmitted to the rear wheels of the BMW i3 in any version only from the electric motor.

Initially, batteries with a capacity of 22 kWh were installed on the BMW i3. Starting with the 2017 model year, the iTree received new version with batteries with a nominal capacity of 33 kWh (actually 27.2 are available), thanks to which the range of an electric vehicle without a “range extender” in the European NEDC cycle has increased to 300 km. As of model year 2018, only the BMW i3 is available with 33 kWh batteries. In addition, there were "sports" versions i3s and i3s REX with a 10 mm lower ground clearance, sport-tuned suspension, more “rich” equipment and 20-inch wheels instead of 19-inch for the basic versions.

At the end of 2018, BMW once again upgraded the i3 family, equipping the electric car with a battery with a nominal capacity of 42.2 kWh (actually available 37.9 kWh). The power reserve at the same time increased to 359 km in the NEDC cycle or 285-310 km in the new WLTP cycle. A similar "battery" appeared on the BMW i3s, which "according to the passport" travels 330-345 km in the NEDC cycle and 270-285 km in the WLTP measurements.

BMW i3s and i3s REX electric motors with 14 hp (184 hp) more powerful and give out 20 Nm more (270 Nm) of torque. Thanks to this increase, the new electric version is ready to exchange a “hundred” in 6.9 seconds after the start, while the five-door with an additional gasoline engine accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.7 seconds. 

The car is notable not only for its original design, but also for the interior design, which can be called the realm of digital technology. In the BMW i3, color displays have taken the place of the traditional dashboard and center console. In addition, the hatchback has access to the Internet and support for synchronization with various mobile devices.

The passenger capsule in the BMW i3 is made of carbon fiber composite. Six exterior colors are available for the car, all of which are paired with black details anyway.
