BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe - formally, this is a four-door sedan, however, BMW calls it a “four-door coupe” for its elongated silhouette and frameless doors, so it’s already more convenient for someone here. Introduced in November 2019 at the Los Angeles Auto Show
The "two" with the prefix Gran Coupe and the factory index F44 is built on the same platform as the BMW 1 series (F40). Both cars received a transverse engine and basic front-wheel drive. The main competitor is the Mercedes-Benz CLA.
The length of the car is 4526 mm - the same as the BMW 3 Series (E90), while it is still more compact than the Mercedes-Benz CLA with a length of 4688 mm. The wheelbase is the same 2670 mm as the “unity”, and the trunk volume is 430 liters. The back of the rear sofa folds in proportions of 40:20:40, the lid can optionally be equipped with a contactless opening system.
The interior is similar to the related 1 Series. Basic versions are equipped with analog devices with a 5.1-inch screen and an 8.8-inch touchscreen media system. More expensive versions have two 10.25-inch displays and a projection screen in front of the driver. The list of options includes: adaptive cruise control, a media system control system using gestures, a panoramic roof, a car park, a leather interior and other “dopas”.
The BMW Digital Key will be available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe. With it, you can lock, unlock and start the car engine with a smartphone with NFC technology. You can open the car by bringing the phone to the door handle (it works even with a dead battery), to start the engine, the smartphone must be placed in the niche for the phone. You can share your BMW Digital Key with up to five people.
Three suspension options are available for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe: standard, M Sport with a 10mm lower ride height and adaptive suspension with two stiffness levels: Comfort and Sport. M Sport sports steering and M Sport braking system are available as an option.
Debuted "deuce" Gran Coupe in four versions. The base 218i Gran Coupe is equipped with a 1.5 three-cylinder turbo engine that develops 140 hp. and 220 Nm, and in Overboost mode it gives out an additional 10 Nm in gears from fourth and higher. Such an engine can be combined with a six-speed “mechanics” or a seven-speed “robot” with two clutches.
The remaining versions are equipped with an eight-speed "automatic". The petrol and all-wheel drive BMW 228i xDrive Gran Coupe is designed for the US market only: a two-liter turbo four produces 231 hp. and 350 Nm. And for Europe, a version of the BMW 220d Gran Coupe with front-wheel drive and a 2.0 turbodiesel with 190 hp is provided. and 400 Nm.
The flagship version is the BMW M235i xDrive with a two-liter petrol turbo engine with 306 hp. and 450 Nm. Such a car has a Torsen front self-locking differential and electronic start control, and additional amplifiers are installed in the front of the body and on the central tunnel. The M235i xDrive accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds with the base version and 4.8 seconds with the M Performance package, while the top speed is limited to 250 km/h. In addition, the “charged” version differs from the rest by a radiator grille with a three-dimensional mesh, a front bumper with large air intakes, black glossy trim, a BMW M rear apron and a rear spoiler.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is produced at the BMW plant in Leipzig, Germany. The start of sales is scheduled for March 2020.
