The history of the model began in 2007, when the company showed the crossover concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show. And already at the beginning of 2008, at the international exhibition in Detroit, the serial version of the BMW X6 saw the light. In 2011, the car went through a light facelift. In the list of options appeared fully LED headlights, as well as a three-seater version of the rear sofa.

The list of gasoline power plants includes a three-liter "six" with a capacity of 306 hp. and a 407-horsepower 4.4-liter V8. The range of diesel engines consists of units with a volume of 3 liters, the power of which, depending on the modification, is 245, 306 or 388 hp.

The powerful 388-horsepower triple-turbocharged diesel engine is only available for the BMW X6 M50d sports model. The peak torque of the engine is available in the range of 2,000-3,000 rpm and is 740 Nm. With such a unit, the crossover accelerates to “hundreds” in just 5.3 seconds, and the maximum speed is electronically limited at around 250 km / h. At the same time, according to passport data, the consumption in the combined cycle of a “charged” diesel BMW X6 is 7.7 liters.

All engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic.

Serial production of the BMW X6 has been established at the company's plant in North America.
