BMW 8 Series Coupé (G15) - a two-door coupe of the Gran Turismo class, which replaced the 6 series in the back of the F13. Presentation models took place in June 2018.

The new 8 Series is based on the CLAR (Cluster Architecture) platform, which is also used in the 5 Series sedans and station wagons (G30 / G31) and the 7 Series sedan (G11), but the design of the "eight" is very different from other representatives of the brand. Thus, the radiator grilles are a single massive hexagonal element, complemented by wide air intakes and very narrow front LED headlights. A graceful shoulder line runs through the entire body to the taillights, while the double-bubble-curved roof, inspired by classic racing cars, flows smoothly into the rear window. The car's width and low center of gravity are accentuated by horizontal and diagonal lines at the rear, as well as 3D effect LED taillights.

The proportions of the BMW 8 Series are marked by low ground clearance, a long wheelbase, a wide track, an elongated silhouette with narrow side windows and a double-bubble roof that flows elegantly into the rear. The length of the car is 4843mm, the width is 1902mm, the height is 1341mm and the wheelbase is 2822mm

An almost flat bottom, active air damper control, side air intakes in the front bumper, air ducts in the front fenders and narrow exterior mirror bases work to reduce aerodynamic drag. On the M850i ​​xDrive modification, a front spoiler is additionally installed. This element minimizes the lift on the front axle that occurs at high speeds.

The minimalistic design continues in the interior of the BMW 8 Series Coupe. The lines of all interior elements are directed longitudinally and emphasize sporty driving. Only the transition between the center console and the dashboard is decorated with decorative overlays, and the sports seats are already covered in Vernasca leather as standard. In addition, leather-trimmed doors and front panel are included as standard.

In front of the driver is a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, while to the right is the 10.25-inch main display. Based on the on-board operating system BMW 7.0, the new concept allows the display of different content depending on the situation, such as longitudinal g-force during acceleration or lateral g-force during cornering. There are several ways to interact with the car: using the buttons on the steering wheel, the iDrive controller, touch input, voice control or gesture control.

The sport seats are upholstered in Vernasca leather as standard. Soft leather trim on the doors and instrument panel is also standard. The low position of both rear seats made it possible to make the headrests an integral part of the backrests. The volume of the luggage compartment is 420 liters, and if necessary, it can be increased by folding the rear seatbacks in a ratio of 50:50.

Double wishbone front suspension upper struts and flat five-link rear suspension enhance chassis rigidity and responsive handling. At the same time, the increased camber on both axles has a positive effect on the vehicle's ability to resist lateral g-forces in high-speed corners. In addition to the adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers, the new BMW 8 Series Coupe comes standard with Integral Active Steering. It reduces the turning radius, improves maneuverability and facilitates lane changes and high-speed cornering.

The BMW 8 Series Coupé is fitted as standard with laser headlights with anti-dazzle automatic high beams and a range of safety systems: Anti-Lock Brake ABS, DSC Dynamic Stability Control, DTC Dynamic Traction Control and CBC Cornering Brake Control. In addition, there is a function of drying, readiness and compensation for the decrease in the effectiveness of the brakes, a start-up assistance system, a parking assistant with a rear-view camera and an emergency proximity alarm, as well as a reversing assistant. Optional Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function, Parking Assistant Plus with Panoramic View and Driving Assistant Professional.

The new 4.4 V8 TwinPower Turbo powertrain debuted in the BMW M850i ​​xDrive Coupe. Power increase by 68 hp compared to the previous V8 engine, brought the peak value to 530 hp. at 5500-6000 rpm. The maximum torque was 750 Nm, available in the speed range from 1800 to 4600 rpm. As a result, acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in the designated version takes 3.7 seconds. 

The diesel BMW 840d xDrive Coupe is equipped with a 3.0-liter straight-six with 320 hp. and a torque of 680 Nm at 1750 rpm. Such a car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. The motors are combined with an updated 8-speed Steptronic Sport with paddle shifters. The transmission received an increased range of gear ratios, a new control program and an optimized hydraulic drive.

Serial production of the BMW 8 Series Coupé started in July 2018 at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing (Germany).
