BMW 7 Series - the presentation of the sixth generation of the "seven" BMW took place in June 2015 at the head office of BMW in Munich. The public premiere of the model took place in September of the same year at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The sedan is available in standard (G11 body) and long (G12) wheelbases.

The new BMW 7-Series has received the most modern developments of the Bavarian brand. Lightweight materials are used in the design of the car, most of the power units are completely new or modernized. In addition, the novelty has acquired an optional automatic parking system, in which the driver does not even have to be in the cabin, as well as laser headlights that illuminate the road for 600 meters.

Interestingly, when changing generations, the car practically did not change in overall dimensions: the length of the standard version is 5,098 mm (+19 mm), the width is 1,902 mm, the height is 1,478 mm, and the size of the wheelbase remains the same and is equal to 3,070 mm standard and 3210 mm for the long wheelbase version. The latter exceeds the standard and previous version in length by 139 and 18 mm, respectively. The front track of the car has increased by 7 mm, and the rear - by 4 mm.

BMW 7 Series generation G11/12 became the first model of the Bavarians, built on the new modular platform CLAR with a longitudinal engine. When designing the body, the engineers paid maximum attention to the issue of efficient use of mass. In particular, the doors and roof of the car are made of aluminum, and industrially produced carbon fiber is used in the roof cross bars, B and C pillars, sills, center tunnel and rear shelf. As a result, the new “seven” is 130 kg lighter than its predecessor and weighs 1,845 kg in the basic diesel version.

The flagship BMW is equipped with electric power steering. As an additional option, you can order the Integral Active Steering system, which turns the rear wheels at an angle of up to 3 degrees (at low speeds in the opposite direction to the front and in the same direction at high speeds). The option is available for both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions with the xDrive all-wheel drive system.

The seventh series received a new Executive Drive Pro system, available for all modifications, except for the 740e. It combines the work of air suspension (included in the basic package), adaptive dampers and active anti-roll bars. The electronics evaluate the road ahead using a stereoscopic camera, as well as navigation data and even driving style. At the same time, the car compensates for rolls in corners and relentlessly adjusts the stiffness of the suspension depending on road conditions. 

The novelty differs from the previous version, including the aerodynamic drag coefficient reduced by 15%. This is made possible by the use of an aerodynamically shaped underbody liner, as well as optimized mirrors and air ducts in the front fenders that channel air out of the wheel arches. In addition, air flaps in the grille regulate the air flow depending on the current engine demand.

The interior of the flagship uses new materials, but the main innovations are the touch-sensitive climate control unit and the new generation iDrive multimedia complex, which is also controlled using a touch screen or gestures. Hand movements allow you to change the sound volume, accept or cancel phone calls, etc. However, the now classic round control joystick remained in its place on the center console.

The G7 also has wireless charging for mobile devices and an air ionizer. In the Executive Lounge version, the car is offered with folding tables on the rear console and a removable touch pad. The 7-inch device allows you to control the functions of the rear entertainment and comfort systems, and can also be used to play audio or video files from external sources, as a game console or to “surf” the Internet.

Petrol

• BMW 730i and 730Li: 2.0-liter engine (258 hp, 400 N m), rear-wheel drive, 8-speed Steptronic automatic, acceleration 0-100 km / h - 6.2 and 6.3 seconds, respectively;
• BMW 740i And 740Li: 3.0-liter engine (326 hp, 450 Nm), rear-wheel drive, 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. Acceleration 0-100 km / h - 5.5 and 5.6 seconds, respectively;
• BMW 750i And 750Li: 4.4-liter engine (450 hp, 650 Nm), rear-wheel drive, 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. Acceleration 0-100 km / h - 4.7 seconds;
• BMW 750i xDrive and 750Li xDrive: 4.4-liter engine (450 hp, 650 Nm), all-wheel drive, 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. Acceleration 0-100 km / h - 4.4 and 4.5 seconds, respectively;

Hybrid

• BMW 740e iPerformance And 740Le iPerformance: 2.0-liter gasoline engine (258 hp, 400 Nm) and an electric motor integrated into the 8-speed "automatic" (113 hp, 250 Nm). The capacity of the traction lithium-ion battery is 9.2 kWh. Rear-wheel drive, acceleration 0-100 km / h - 5.4 and 5.5 seconds, respectively;
• 740Le xDrive iPerformance: 2.0-liter gasoline engine (258 hp, 400 Nm) and an electric motor (113 hp, 250 Nm) integrated into the 8-speed "automatic". The capacity of the traction lithium-ion battery is 9.2 kWh. Four-wheel drive, acceleration 0-100 km / h - 5.3 seconds; 

Diesel

• bmw 725d And 725LD: 2.0-liter engine (231 hp, 500 Nm), 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive. Acceleration 0-100 km / h in 6.9 and 7.0 seconds, respectively;
• bmw 730d And 730LD: 3.0-liter engine (265 hp, 620 Nm), 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive. Acceleration 0-100 km / h in 6.1 and 6.2 seconds, respectively;
• BMW 730Ld xDrive: 3.0-liter engine (265 hp, 620 Nm), 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, all-wheel drive. Acceleration 0-100 km / h in 6.2 seconds;
• BMW 740d xDrive And 740LdxDrive: 3.0-liter engine (320 hp, 680 Nm), 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, all-wheel drive. Acceleration 0-100 km / h in 5.2 and 5.3 seconds, respectively;
• 750dxDrive And 750LDxDrive: 3.0-liter engine (400 hp, 760 Nm), 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, all-wheel drive. Acceleration 0-100 km / h in 4.6 and 4.7 seconds, respectively;

The new 7 Series is offered with the M Sport package, which features special body and interior styling. In addition, various models of rims, a Bowers and Wilkins audio system, a panoramic roof, a head-up display and a night vision system are optionally available for the “seven”.

Serial production of the new BMW 7 Series is organized at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing, Germany.
