BMW 5 Series Sedan 2014 - rear- or all-wheel drive five-seat E-class sedan. The current generation of the model debuted in 2009, and in May 2013 the company introduced a restyled version, the external differences of which were slightly modified bumpers and air intakes, as well as a more clearly defined “stuffing” of lights.
There are four new colors, as well as several fresh alloy wheel options. In addition, the "five" from now on, as well as BMW 3 Series, can be ordered in one of several versions: Luxury Line and Modern Line, in each of which the model is not only transformed externally, but also equipped with an individual set of options.
Both trims get LED fog lights, illuminated door handles and 18-inch alloy wheels. The "luxury" version features a large amount of chrome decor, as well as an anthracite wood finish. The highlight of the Modern Line is the matt chrome and dark pearl interior. In this case, any version can be supplemented with the "M sport" package.
A pleasant innovation is xenon headlights, which are no longer an option, but are already installed in the “base”. The list of additional equipment includes an updated Comfort Access system, the main “chip” of which is the automatic drive of the trunk lid, which can now not only open, but also close access to the “hold”. In order for the drive to work, you just need to move your foot under the bumper. Also offered for a surcharge are Harman Kardon acoustics, an entertainment system with “tablet” displays for rear passengers, interior lighting with a color selection function (from white to orange), cameras (in side mirrors, rear and front bumpers), adaptive headlights, a night vision system. vision, head-up display.
Offered for the model and electronically controlled shock absorbers, a rear suspension with the function of turning the wheels (only for rear-wheel drive versions), a lowered sports chassis, a fully automatic parking assistant, the Driving Assistant Plus option, which can completely take over control in traffic jams. An optional Active Protection package is also available, which recognizes driver fatigue and tightens seat belts, moves the front seatbacks to an upright position, and closes the windows and sunroof in the event of a threat of an accident, thus minimizing the consequences of a possible accident.
In the list of gasoline engines, the old 407-horsepower "eight" gave way to a new 450-horsepower, and the list of diesel engines expanded due to a two-liter unit with a capacity of 143 hp. Thus, the range of engines of the updated BMW 5 Series includes four gasoline engines, six units running on “heavy” fuel, and one hybrid power plant. Traditionally, all gasoline versions are designated with the letter “i”, diesel ones with the letter “d”, and hybrid ones are called ActiveHybrid:
520i uses a 2-liter four-cylinder engine (184 hp, 270 Nm);
528i - 2-liter four-cylinder engine (245 hp, 350 Nm);
535i - a six-cylinder engine with a volume of 3 liters (306 hp, 400 Nm);
550i - eight-cylinder engine with a volume of 4.4 liters (450 hp, 650 Nm);
518d - a four-cylinder engine with a volume of 2 liters (143 hp, 360 Nm);
520d - a four-cylinder engine with a volume of 2 liters (184 hp, 380 Nm);
525d - a four-cylinder engine with a volume of 2 liters (218 hp, 450 Nm);
530d - a six-cylinder engine with a volume of 3 liters (258 hp, 540 Nm);
535d - a six-cylinder engine with a volume of 3 liters (313 hp, 630 Nm);
M550d - 3-liter six-cylinder engine (381 hp, 740 Nm);
active hybrid - 3-liter six-cylinder engine + electric motor (total output is 340 hp and 450 Nm).
For modifications 520i, 528i, 535i, 518d, 520d and 525d, the standard gearbox is a six-speed "mechanics", and an eight-speed automatic, which has a coasting mode, is offered for a surcharge. Versions 550i, 530d, 535d and "hybrid" automatic transmission is set by default.
The xDrive all-wheel drive system is available as an option for the 528i, BMW 535i, BMW 550i, BMW 520d, BMW 525d, BMW 530d and BMW 535d models. The “charged” modification of the M550d in the “base” is aggregated with all-wheel drive and a sports eight-speed automatic.
The standard clearance of the BMW 5 Series is 141 mm, the sports suspension makes it exactly 10 mm lower. Serial production of the model is established in Germany.
