BMW 4 Series - the premiere of the pre-production version of the car took place in January 2013 at the auto show in Detroit, and in early summer the company distributed detailed information and the first photos of conveyor modifications. The index change is not accidental: from now on, all traditional two-door, as well as “four-door” coupes of the brand will be indicated by an even number.

Despite the increased dimensions compared to the BMW “troika”, the successor of which is the 4 series, the latter embodied everything that is valued in sports cars: an ideal weight distribution between the front and rear axles in the ratio of 50:50, as well as a record low the background of other models of the brand is the center of gravity, which is below 500 mm above the road.

The coupe has become longer by 26 mm (4638 mm), wider by 43 mm (1825 mm) and lower by 16 mm (1362 mm). The wheelbase has increased by 50 mm (2810 mm).

The drag coefficient of the "four" is only 0.28, and the extra "fats" compared to its predecessor, depending on the modification, have been reduced by 20-45 kg.

Like most of the latest BMW models, the new two-door is offered in several styles: Sport Line, Modern Line and Luxury Line. In addition, you can choose the brightest performance, which is called M Sport.

The "chip" of the Sport Line is the black glossy "decor": window lines and "gills". The exhaust pipes of the "aggressive" two-door are spaced on different sides. The charm of the Luxury Line lies in the abundance of chrome and the false radiator grille with 11 fins. The Modern Line features a matt chrome exterior finish. The M Sport version is an “evil” body kit, a diffuser in the rear bumper and chrome exhaust “trunks”.

The company formally divided the debut of the coupe on the market into two parts. The first two petrol modifications (428i and 435i) and one diesel (520d) appeared on sale. By the end of 2013, the 420i, 430d and 435d versions were also launched into production:

• 420i - 184 hp, 270 Nm;

• 428i - 245 hp, 350 Nm;

• 435i - 306 hp, 400 Nm (a feature of the version is a wide “shelf” of maximum torque, which stretched from 1,200 to 5,000 rpm);

• 420d - 184 hp, 380 Nm;

• 430d - 258 hp, 560 Nm;

• 435d - 313 hp, 630 Nm.

For a surcharge for all versions, an eight-speed automatic is offered. By default, the motors are aggregated with manual gearboxes for six gears.

The proprietary xDrive all-wheel drive system is available for almost all modifications. The exception is the 430d version, which is available only in a rear-wheel drive version.

The long list of model options includes a color head-up display, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, a customizable mechatronic chassis, a pedestrian detection and collision avoidance system with automatic braking, lane control, all-round video review, the ability to access the Internet, modern multimedia that can dial dictation, sports suspension, more powerful brakes, and full LED adaptive headlights.

The ground clearance of the rear-wheel drive BMW 4 Series is 130 mm. The ground clearance of modifications equipped with the xDrive all-wheel drive system is 145 mm. Serial production of the BMW "four" is established in Germany.
