BMW 1 Series (F40) - the third generation of the “one”, which was presented in June 2019 at a special event at the BMW Welt Museum in Munich. The car with the F40 index replaced the rear-wheel drive model in the back F20. With the change of generations, the 1 series lost its three-door version and switched to a front-wheel drive platform with a transverse engine.
The new 1 Series received more expressive sidewall embossing, a pointed “shark nose” with spliced radiator grille nostrils and strokes of narrow headlights, optionally with adaptive LED light. The defining element of the stern was its wide lower and tapering upper part. Due to this, an expressive shoulder line is formed, giving the car a dynamic silhouette. The hatchback comes with 16-inch alloy wheels by default, and 19-inch wheels can be ordered as an option, for the first time in the model's history.
The front of the BMW 1 Series F40 has McPherson strut struts, and a multi-link rear. Four-wheel drive on some modifications is implemented through a rear axle coupling. Pictured is a BMW 118d Sportline with 17-inch wheels.
The wheelbase of the new hatchback is 2670 mm, that is, 20 mm shorter than the previous rear-wheel drive model. At the same time, the length of the five-door was 4319 mm (-5 mm), while the width, on the contrary, increased to 1799 mm (+34 mm). From this, the interior became more spacious, landing on the second row was simplified, and the volume of the trunk under the shelf increased by 20 liters - up to 380 liters. If the seat backs are folded down, you get 1200 hp.
The interior design echoes older models of the period. A similar arrangement and shape of controls can be observed, for example, in Troika (G20), crossover X3 (G01) and other novelties of the brand of recent years. Optionally, the hatch is available with a digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, a sliding panoramic roof, an electric fifth door, adaptive cruise control, gesture control of the media system, a car parking system and other developments from the rich arsenal of BMW.
Five modifications were the first to appear on the conveyor, and there are no more six-cylinder engines among them:
Three gearboxes were provided for them: front-wheel drive versions are equipped with a six-speed “mechanics” by default, a seven-speed “robot” with two clutches is optionally available for three-cylinder versions, and modifications with four-cylinder units are equipped with an 8-speed torque converter “automatic”, and in combination with all-wheel drive This box is already included.
The BMW 1 Series (F40) is produced in Germany at the company's plants in Leipzig (since July 2019) and Regensburg (since November 2019).
